Description Chamonix is the most famous mountain villages at the foot of the remarkable and majestic Mont-Blanc, the highest peak of Europe (4807 m./15.771 ft) . The resident population of the valley is about 10,000. The seasonal workers and tourists can add another 100,000 .
In 1924 Chamonix hosted the first Winter Olympic Games. Skiing was introduced in Chamonix at the end of the 19th century by Dr Payot. The first big winter season was in 1906-07.
You're free to spend the day as you please. Wander by foot to discover the town’s many delights, such as Parc Loisir, Musée Alpin, Lac Gaillands or Atelier Les Racines. Chamonix is the world capital for outdoor activites: mountaineering, alpinism, hiking, climbing, mountain biking, paragliding, trail running, and skiing.
